We are talking about The Google guys!
I mean we have learned about a culture of sexism and lack of diversity in tech sectors. But Google treating its employees based on their gender is something we cannot think of.
James Damore, the Google engineer fired over writing a 10-page viral(leaked) memo about diversity has filed a complaint with federal labor officials, reports Business Insider.
The leaked memo tried to explain that the gender pay gap exists because women are biologically predisposed to work differently than men. On Monday, Google swiftly announced his firing, saying that Damore had breached the company’s code of conduct.
“I have a legal right to express my concerns about the terms and conditions of my working environment and to bring up potentially illegal behavior, which is what my document does,” Damore told The New York Times.
The controversy comes as increasing numbers of women are going public with complaints of gender-based discrimination in Silicon Valley.
Scandal over discrimination at the company deepens as dozens of current and former staff say they have earned less than men despite equal qualifications.
However, Google has denied the allegations
In response to the leaked memo, Danielle Brown, Google’s new vice president of diversity, told employees in an email that “it’s not a viewpoint that I or this company endorses, promotes or encourages”. “Changing a culture is hard, and it’s often uncomfortable,” she said.
