A GAY vicar who married a Romanian male model 55 years his junior has been left homeless after giving him his flat — simply days earlier than they break up. Retired Rev Philip Clements, 79, broke up with Florin Marin, 24, after he was informed he was too previous to affix in with his toyboy’s late-night time clubbing. Clements and Marin wed in April this year at Ramsgate Register Office after they met on a dating site. Clements then sold his home in Kent so he could buy a £88,800 (€100,000) flat in Bucharest for his new husband and he to live in.
But Clement admits he did not realise they might break up simply days later — leaving him “very unhappy”. He stated: “We went off in April and we had a great time. We used to go out to the cinema and shopping. He makes me laugh. We'd laugh a lot." Mr Clements was a parish priest. He went towards Church of England guidelines to marry his Romanian male model lover in April.
"I came to England for some medical appointments for a fortnight in late August. When I returned, we had a disagreement." "I was very lonely, not knowing the language or having any friends."
"Florin would spend a lot of time going out. He used to go to bed very late, sometimes 5am in the morning having been out nightclubbing or watching films." He said "I wasn't allowed to go clubbing. It wasn't for old people. In my heart I didn't accept it but I trusted him." The retired clergyman stated he wished to offer safety to his new husband by handing him the flat – however they broke up simply days later. Mr Clements, who returned to Britain in September, stated he handed over the flat to Florin to offer him “security when I die”. Shortly after this the couple split.
Clements has been back in the UK since September but is now relying on his friends to put him up.
He said: "I left very sadly and very unhappy. My friends in England were telling me I should leave him but I left with a very heavy heart.
He stated: “He came with me to the airport. I’ve lost everything really. I’ve lost my house and was in a poor state.”
"I regret selling my house. I bought the flat. It was my suggestion to go to Romania and Florin liked the idea but I think we would have been better off if we'd stayed at my house in Eastry.
"I wouldn't have been so isolated and he would have had things to do."
But all might not be lost for the couple, because since their split, the pair have kept in touch, with Marin even flying over to the UK to visit, with Clement saying: "I don't want a divorce and he says he doesn't want anybody else."
